Medica mondiale is a Germany -based Non Governmental Organization standing up for women and girls in war and crisis zones throughout the world. Medica mondiale supports women and girls having experienced sexualised violence, regardless of political, ethnic or religious affiliation. Together with women from around the world, medica mondiale is committed to helping women to lead a dignified and self-determined life.
Since its establishment in 1993, medica mondiale has been taking on the task of facing sexualised violence in war at all levels. Women and girls are still being Rape and regarded by men as “natural” war loot in International Law and War Rape – day by day and in many places in this world. medica mondiale helps where people stand and watch these crimes, where women and girls receive no support and are left to their own devices.
Medica mondiale’s commitment is to give women a chance to lead an independent and self-determined life despite having experienced degrading and destructive violence.
Medica mondiale offers women and girls having experienced rape and torture vital medical, psychological and legal assistance and programmes promoting the generation of income – both through its own projects and in co-operation with competent women’s organisations on site. At the same time, medica mondiale defends women’s rights at political level and draws public attention to these crimes and their destructive consequences for women and societies.
medica mondiale is actively supporting the rights of women in various projects in nine regions. There are medica mondiale therapy and women’s centres in Albania , Afghanistan , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Kosovo and Liberia . These centres developed into independent women’s organisations in Bosnia, Albania and in Kosovo, which medica mondiale continue to support and advise. In countries where medica mondiale are not represented through their own project centres, they work with partner organisations based on the ground to support projects in the medical, psychosocial and legal fields. This type of project funding is mostly for a limited period of time, with average subsidies amounting to 5,000 euros. This co-operation may lead to long-term project co-operation with much larger subsidies.
