As one of Womanity’s global programs, The Womanity Award is the world’s first major award celebrating prevention strategies that keep women and girls from harm.
The award is a partnership between The Womanity Foundation – financial and technical assistance partner, an Innovation partner and a Scale Up partner, to, on one hand, jointly adapt and replicate such solutions in new contexts, and on the other hand, mobilize resources, knowledge and networks.
In 2014, Womanity selected ABAAD MENA and Promundo as inaugural recipients of the Womanity Award for the prevention of Violence Against Women, for the replication of Program H in Lebanon and the Middle East. Programme H is a curriculum used in more than 22 countries, it primarily targets men, ages 15 to 24, to encourage critical reflection about rigid norms related to manhood. It is based on extensive research of young men in Brazil with more gender-equitable attitudes, which demonstrated that these attitudes were indicative of men who had a peer group supportive of gender equality, better personal experiences around gender equality, and more meaningful male role models.
In May 2016, Womanity selected Take Back The Tech! Mexico, a program that aims to make the Internet a safer place for women.
