Wikigender 2.0 was presented on 20 November 2008 in Stockholm during the international workshop "Measuring, Managing and Evaluating Gender Equality". The improved website is now available at http://new.wikigender.org.

Wikigender 2.0

Wikigender 2.0 will greatly facilitate the sharing of information on gender-related issues. The new website presents itself in an improved layout, avoiding unnecessary functions and focusing on the main channels through which users can engage in the website: i.e. by discussing existing information, drafting new articles or uploading new documents. Please see the video for more information.

Close to 60 participants from international organisations, national governments and non-governmental organisations agreed that Wikigender will greatly contribute to improving knowledge on gender equality and inform and sensitise people about the importance of women's empowerment. While high quality statistics were key to designing effective policies, an essential element of achieving sustainable change required an improved understanding and active involvement of people. Wikigender can contribute to both of these objectives, providing a platform for the dissemination of information and a forum to discuss critical and controversial issues. Policies could thus be adapted to the specific needs of a society and be more effective due to the increased understanding of the necessity of reforms.
