About
GEAR, the Gender Equality Architecture Reform Campaign, a network of more than 300 women’s organizations, has been campaigning for the establishment of a new United Nations Agency for Women since its launch in February 2008. Its creation was a result of the meeting planned by the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) and the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) of 50 women activists in March 2007 and the ensuing discussions. The campaign is directed by the GEAR Campaign Working Group, which is made up of various women’s organizations and is coordinated by a committee based in New York United States. GEAR has shown great success in advocating for the creation of a new entity for women, called UN Women, and is now focused on keeping the momentum of its implementation going.
