The UK Government and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with the support of UNFPA and other partners, hosted the international Family Planning Summit in London on 11 July. This Summit aims to launch a global movement and make a massive commitment to meet 120 million women’s unmet need for contraception by 2020, helping to save lives, transform communities and give more women the chance to determine their own future, especially in the world’s poorest countries. The main objectives are: to revitalize global commitments to family planning and access to contraceptives as a cost-effective and transformational development priority; to improve the access and distribution of contraceptive supplies; to remove and reduce barriers to family planning.
