Special Focus - The London Olympics through a gender lens
The 2012 Olympic Games is a fantastic opportunity to focus our attention on women's participation in the Olympics, as this is the first time that every nation competing will have a women on its team. Women will be represented from football to boxing to archery - a stark difference from the Olympics in 1896, when women were completely barred from competition. Despite the fact that women's athletic participation is still contested in many countries, this Special Focus will be the occasion to celebrate a milestone, with women participating from Saudi Arabia to the United States, the latter even sending more women than men to compete. See how media are reporting on this.
