The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a civil society movement that aims to end the global education crisis. Together we hold governments to account for their promises repeatedly made to provide Education for All. The GCE's mission is to make sure that government's act now to deliver the right of every girl, boy, woman and man to a free quality public education. It plays a key advocacy role in pushing for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, notably gender parity in all levels of education by 2015.

Mission

Formed in 1999, it is active in over 100 countries. The GCE is a forum for civil society organizations, trade unions, child rights campaigners, teachers, parents and students to join together to demand universal education from governments.

The GCE campaign is driven by the conviction that quality public education for all is achievable, and by the concern for the immense costs of failure. The GCE believes that in an increasingly knowledge-based economy, exclusion from education will translate into growing poverty, inequality and deprivation.

Campaigns and activities

The GCE was a united civil society voice in the World Education Forum in Dakar 2000 and setting the Education for All agenda for 2015. The GCE campaigns throughout the year, mobilising pressure from all sectors and holding governments and international institutions to account.

• The GCE coordinates the Global Action Week on education in April every year. Activities to date include - the ‘World's Biggest Lobby' and ‘Send My Friend to School'.
  
• The GCE represents civil society on education at key education decision making bodies including the Education Fast Track Initiative Steering Committee, the Education for All UNESCO led Working Group and High Level Group.
