Motion Charts (also known as "Gapminder" or "Trendalyzer") provide moving graphics of statistics, a very useful tool for analyzing data trends over time and gaining insights into relationships between variables. Wikigender will use motion charts to tell stories about gender equality and human and economic development, with data form the Gender, Institutions and Development Data Base and other sources. Here is the first Motion Chart available on Wikigender, which presents data on gender equality and development with the following variables:

  • GDP per capita, PPP (constant 2005 international $)
  • Labor force participation rate, female (% of female population ages 15-64)
  • Literacy rate, youth female (% of females ages 15-24)
  • Ratio of female to male primary enrollment
  • Ratio of female to male secondary enrollment
  • Ratio of female to male enrollments in tertiary education
  • Life expectancy at birth, female (years)
  • Population, total

Select your variables of interest on either axis and hit the play button to see the relationship between these two variables over time. (due to high demand, you may experience some delay in accessing the data)
